SR-71 Blackbird
Lockheed SR-71 "Blackbird" adalah sebuah pesawat pengawasan strategik jarak jauh termaju yang mempunyai kelajuan Mach 3+.[1] Pesawat ini telah dibangunkan berdasarkan pesawat Lockheed A-12 dan YF-12 oleh syarikat Lockheed Corporation Skunk Works sebagai satu projek rahsia. Secara tidak rasmi, pesawat SR-71 dinamakan sebagai Blackbird, dan dipanggil sebagai Habu oleh anak kapalnya, yang mana merujuk kepada spesies Ular Kapak yang terdapat di Okinawa.[2] Clarence "Kelly" Johnson telah dipertanggungjawab untuk membangunkan banyak konsep reka bentuk inovatif. Antara ciri-ciri pertahanan pesawat ini adalah kelajuan dan aras penerbangan yang tinggi, di mana sekiranya pelancaran sebuah peluru berpandu permukaan ke udara dikesan, tindakan mengelak piawai mudah adalah dengan memecut. Pesawat SR-71 digunakan di dalam perkhidmatan bermula pada tahun 1964 sehingga 1998, dengan sejumlah 12 daripada 32 buah pesawat telah musnah di dalam kemalangan. Walau bagaimanapun, tiada sebuahpun yang musnah disebabkan oleh tindakan musuh.[3]
