Greetings

I have a query and since I'm still rather new to the world of Wikipedia, it will most likely be a rather daft one. So, my question is this : Since Malaysia has it's own version of the encyclopedia (called Ensiklopedia Sejarah dan Kebudayaan Melayu), would it not be possible to use some of its entries here (with permission from DBP of course)? --Ena 08:31, 1 Jul 2004 (UTC)

Any question is welcome. Please note that Wikipedia ia using GNU Free Documentation License which is not compatible with ordinary copyright. Please read copyrights in English Wikipedia, as to translate the page is beyond my capacity at the moment :). If they (DBP), however, agreed to donate those material, it will be most welcome :)). English main page was block for editing, so I cannot copy the format. The next best is French which I trying my best to translate to Malay. But this will take time as I have precious little time to do this

Welcome Samuel! I'm very happy to see so many new faces lately. For the time being, we are using meta:LanguageMs.php and meta:Talk:LanguageMs.php to do localisation, but as you can see, I have created the localisation table and will eventually ask for sysop status so that me and Yosri can directly edit the messages. What does the following text mean?

Segala bentuk rencana akademik amat dialu-alukan. Elakkan penggunaan perkataan yang remeh-temeh seperti "zhdhd", "Hi...", dan "I love xxxx." (bahasa rojak tidak digalakkan.) Anda digalakkan membuat percubaan di kotak pasir untuk mempelajari bagaimana anda boleh menyunting sebarang rencana sekarang.

It seems to say something like "ygxjgre," contributions are not welcome or will be deleted. While this is certainly true, maybe it'll be a little more profesional not to say it outright? That is, i think we should focus on the positive side of this project -- Kowey 09:20, 2 Mac 2004 (UTC)

Frankly I feel Malay user is a bit immature and not yet grasp the consept and goal of WIkipedia. Some of the remark make me blushed. But then, I believe the number of Wikipedian is sufficent to police the Wikipedia now, unlike last time.Yosri 11:05, 2 Mac 2004 (UTC)

New look?

I propose we adopt a new, cleaner look for the front page. Something like the one on en: would be nice, but we don't have enough mass for that yet. Maybe the version on fr: would be good, or the version that simple: use. simple: might be an especially good choice for wikipedias of small size.

I agreed. The Bahasa Melayu should be International page open to all Malay speakers regardless of their country or origin. We have Malay speakers in South Afrika, China, and Russia. They also can play a part in contributing to Bahasa Melayu. However, I propose to keep the current format because the navigation is more clear for new user. Agree on that. What I meant was an exclusive color scheme for Malay wikipedia. Even though we have Malay speaker all over the world, the largest of the speaker would be in Malaysia. (Indonesia uses Bahasa Melayu also, but I realised Bahasa Indonesia would be fitting for Indonesia). For navigation, I prefer navigation format like in English wikipedia, where the main wikipedia content is highlighted. I think there shouldn't be any font style though. Some browser may not support different font face, and this may caused problem when user choose different theme in user preference Bwood 02:47, 17 Mac 2004 (UTC)

If we were to take up English Wiki's style, it would mean that someone has to be tasked to do up articles on the latest news, today in history etc on a regular basis. Do we have enough resources (no. of users, articles) to do that? As for format, I still think we should go for simple:'s. Like what Kowey said, it's suitable for small volume Wikis like ours.

I have no opinion on the colour scheme, but here are two test pages we can play with: Laman Utama/Test and Laman Utama/Test2. We'll try to use the messages at Template:Wikipediatoc and Template:Wikipedialang to avoid duplicating work. We should also find a shorter way to say all the stuff on these test pages. Latest To Do

Based on the above discussions, I'm proposing some new tasks (or re-listing old ones) for the Main Page. In no particular order:

• New layout (Check out Laman Utama/Test, Laman Utama/Test2, Laman Utama/Test3)
• Work on the introduction text (make it shorter, more precise and uncluttered)
• Create/work on templates (for the various sections within the main page):
  • Isi kandungan
  • Masyarakat
  • Rencana pilihan (featured article)
  • Hal semasa (in the news)

Hi, just making a quick visit to see how ms.wikipedia is doing. I thought maybe I could call some attention back to making over the front page. Test3 looks pretty good, although the bottom seems a bit heavy. Could we do something to tidy up that bottom part and then use it to replace the front page? -- Kowey

I am a Malaysian myself and I am seriously disappointed in the quality of the Malay wikipedia. The article history of Malaysia is so short, it look like it was done by someone very lazy. The article on Tunku Abdul Rahman doesn't even include the acts he done that open the road for independence of Malaya, the reason why he is the most respected figure in our country.

I think you guys have good intentions by trying to create more articles, but I think the main goal here should be quality. The important articles should be made properly. A proverb here that describe the condition of articles here is " Bagai melepaskan batuk di tengah tangga ". - Disappointed Proud Malaysia.

Buat pengetahuan anda, ensiklopedia ini ditulis oleh dan untuk penutur Bahasa Melayu di seluruh dunia, bukan di Malaysia sahaja. Tidak dinafikan kebanyakan mereka adalah penduduk Malaysia. New look

Just keeping this section around as a reminder that we still need to clean up the main page. So far, our test pages are

Commons

Folks, there's a convenient new feature you should know about. On the wikipedia commons [1]] it is possible to upload pictures to be shared by all wikipedia projects. You don't need to do anything special to use a commons picture. Just use your Image tag as if it were already on the Malay wikipedia. For example, see Manatee. All the pictures there are from the commons (see [2]).

So what does all this mean for you? No more transfering pictures from en to ms! Just use the commons! :-) Unfortunately, however, not all the en pictures are on the commons yet. If you want to transfer pictures, please transfer them to commons and not ms, so that you save everybody else the effort. -- Kowey 09:37, 6 Nov 2004 (UTC)

Rencana seringkali tidak lengkap!

Sebagai penyumbang baru disini, saya ingin menyatakan rasa tidak puas hati saya melihat begitu banyak sekali rencana-rencana yang dibuat hangat-hangat tahi ayam sahaja! Apa gunanya mempunyai lebih daripada 7,000 rencana bila kebanyakannya tidak siap ataupun lengkap sekalipun!? Ingat, kualiti lebih penting daripada kuantiti! Saya menyeru semua penyumbang bersama lebih rajin menyiapkan rencana. Jika rasa terlalu malas mahu menyiapkan rencana, sila jangan mencipta rencana itu pada mulanya. Amat memenatkan bagi orang lain yang terpaksa mengambil-alih dan menyiapkannya. Terima kasih.

Apa itu "dana"?

If you go to the English wikipedia, at the top of the web page, they mention something about fundraising to help wikipedia, and that refers to Donations and Money!

Here's the translation: Wikimedia memerlukan bantuan anda dalam usaha mengumpul dana. Lihat laman pengumpulan dana kami untuk maklumat lanjut. Wikimedia needs your help in our [usaha mengumpul dana]. Pls. see our [laman pengumpulan dana] for more information.

It should be like this: Wikimedia memerlukan bantuan anda dalam usaha mengumpul duit. Lihat laman pengumpulan duit kami untuk maklumat lanjut.

If any one has any better sentence, kindly post them here.

Before I forget, there is some work to do in the edit page. The toolbar at the top needs some changing to the tooltips.

Overall, this Malay version of Wikipedia needs a lot of refining.

I believe Dana' is better choice of words as it is more universal (cek, kad kredit bukannya duit tetapi masih dana.) Toolbar to the tooltips require changing of Wiki version. Yosri 10:52, 19 Disember 2005 (UTC)

Tahniah kerana berjaya mencapai lebih 10,000 rencana!

Tahniah kerana angka 10,000 berjaya dicapai oleh Wikipedia versi Bahasa Melayu ini. Tetapi, mengapa Wikipedia Bahasa Melayu masih belum dinobat dalam bahagian 'lebih 10,000' rencana pada halaman utama semua Wikipedia?

Saya juga ingin mengambil kesempatan ini untuk menyeru para penyumbang Wikipedia untuk melengkapkan lagi rencana-rencana sumbangan mereka. Masih banyak lagi rencana yang tidak lengkap, dan ini menjejaskan status Wikipedia ini sebagai penyumbang utama rujukan pengetahuan Bahasa Melayu di internet.

Teruskan usaha! - 24 Disember 2005

Syabas kerana akhirnya Wikipedia Bahasa Melayu berjaya dinobatkan dalam bahagian 'lebih 10,000' pada halaman utama Wikipedia. Namun, harapan saya ialah pada tahun 2006 ini para penyumbang akan menumpukan lebih perhatian kepada mutu artikel. Saya percaya kualitinya dapat dipertingkatkan sekiranya lebih ramai orang menyumbang kepada versi Bahasa Melayu. Mungkin masalahnya ialah masih ramai penulis Melayu yang tidak sedar tentang kewujudan Wikipedia.
