Ia berasal dari timur Brazil.[1]
Nama genus Kuhlmanniodendron adalah penghormatan kepada João Geraldo Kuhlmann (1882–1958), seorang ahli botani Brazil,[3] bahagian nama lain dendron merujuk kepada perkataan Yunani untuk pokok.[4] Ia pertama kali diterangkan dan diterbitkan dalam Bot. J. Linn. Soc. Vol.157 pada halaman 104 pada tahun 2008.[1]
