Satu-satunya spesies yang diketahui adalah Acostia gracilis, yang hanya ditemui di Ecuador.[1][6] Ia disenaraikan sebagai spesies terancam.[7]
Nama genus Acostia adalah sebagai penghormatan kepada Misael Acosta Solís (1910–1994), seorang naturalis dari Ecuador.[8] Epitet khusus Latin gracilis bermaksud "langsing".[9] Kedua-dua genus dan spesies ini pertama kali diterangkan dan diterbitkan dalam Bol. Soc. Argent. Bot. Vol.12 di halaman 109 pada tahun 1968.[6]
